Preloop core is Apache 2.0 and free to self-host with no time limit. Business and Enterprise self-hosted licenses are agreed in writing. Business expands once to 50 users at $12,000 per year; beyond that, Enterprise. Cloud subscription limits do not apply to the self-hosted editions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you charge for the tokens my agents use?
When you bring your own provider keys, you pay your provider directly and Preloop never marks that up. Each plan has an ingestion quota, which is how much of that traffic we process and analyze for you. It exists to stop floods, not to bill you.
What happens when I hit the ingestion quota?
Your own-key gateway traffic, firewall rules, approval rules and configured budgets keep running. Above the ingestion quota, analytics detail is reduced and we show an upgrade prompt. Hosted model credit and any budget limits you configure are separate and can stop a request when exhausted.
Is it per seat or per plan?
Per plan. Each plan is a flat price that covers the whole bracket, so adding a teammate inside your bracket costs nothing extra. Business can add seats beyond 20 at $18 per user per month up to 50, and above that we move you to Enterprise.
How many agents can I run?
Free includes 3 agents, Pro 10, Team 100, and Business unlimited. The comparison table always shows the current allowance. Reaching the cap only stops the next agent from being added; the agents you already run keep running and nothing is deleted. These cloud limits do not apply to the open-source self-hosted edition.
What are built-in models?
Built-in models are Preloop-hosted models you can use without supplying your own keys, for example to run an optimization pass. Pro, Team and Business include a monthly allowance. Enterprise allowances are agreed in your contract. Additional spending is currently unavailable. Requests pause when the available included balance is exhausted. Account settings shows usage and credit reserved for requests whose final cost is still being verified. Free accounts get a one-time $0.50 credit rather than a recurring allowance.
Can I self-host instead?
Yes. Preloop is Apache 2.0 licensed and you can self-host the open-source edition for free, with no time limit. It includes the MCP firewall, model gateway, policy engine with CEL, basic budgets, single-person approval rules, cost overview, and session replay with the full optimization loop on your own keys. Paid editions add team administration and approval workflows with multiple approvers, quorum or escalation. The Business self-hosted license is $6,000 per year for up to 25 users on your own infrastructure, with standard releases, product updates and asynchronous support. Enterprise adds a supported self-hosted deployment or a dedicated instance we operate.
Is there a free trial?
You do not need one to start. The Free plan works with your own keys and no card, so you can govern real agent traffic before you pay anything.
Can I change plans later?
Billing owners can compare plans in Account settings using the available history from the previous three months. Review the changed limits, price and effective date, then confirm. Downgrades take effect at the end of the billing period. Existing subscriptions keep their agreed billing terms until you choose a change. Your account comparison explains grandfathered terms and whether you can return. There is no need to cancel and sign up again.
Does analytics history mean every record is deleted at that age?

Enterprise retention is agreed in your contract. Older analytics are periodically removed; longer grandfathered commitments remain protected. Can I purchase Enterprise directly?
Enterprise starts at $30,000 per year including up to 100 users. Contact us to agree on deployment scope, operating responsibilities and support first. After the order form is accepted, we can arrange an invoice or a customer-specific payment link.
